Chattanooga Trip

MARCH 27-29, 2009

I finally sorted through hundreds of pictures and found some of the best ones to post... this was our fun trip in late March to visit my dad and step-mom ("Grandad" and "Mimi").

TRAIN RIDE... no trip to Chattanooga would be complete without a ride on a train! This was not the Chattanooga Choo Choo, but it was a fun ride for the girls on a rainy day.

Rachel & Margaret "sleeping" while the train went through a dark tunnel

CAROUSEL RIDES... the carousel at Coolidge Park is an old-fashioned carousel with hand-carved, hand-painted animals to ride on... it's really neat, and the girls LOVED it. Needless to say, we rode on it a LOT of times -- it was quite a hit with both Rachel and Caroline!

TENNESSEE AQUARIUM: Chattanooga has an incredible aquarium that fills two enormous buildings -- one is primarily saltwater, and the other is mainly freshwater. We could have spent a few days there, but only had time for the saltwater building. We enjoyed seeing lots of fish, sharks, penguins, sting rays, other marine life, and a butterfly garden. Here are a few highlights from the aquarium.

Caroline was definitely tired and ready to go home!

WALNUT STREET BRIDGE: We enjoyed a nice, windy stroll on the pedestrian-only bridge that goes between Coolidge Park (by the carousel) and other downtown attractions like the aquarium.

The grown-ups had fun on the playground, too

Easter Weekend

We had a really nice weekend in New Bern with Brian's family to celebrate Easter. Easter Sunday was gorgeous -- sunny and mild, with pretty azaleas blooming all over Marilyn & Hal's beautiful yard! Here are some of the pictures of everyone in their church clothes.... I hope to add the casual pics of egg hunting and other random snapshots later on this week.

Emma Rose Marshall

We woke up to joyous news on Easter morning: Robert & Lo had their baby!! Emma Rose Marshall was born on Sunday, April 12th, at 6:21 a.m. She weighed 7 lbs., 2 oz., and is just beautiful! We are so happy for them and VERY excited to have a new niece/cousin! Today we were thrilled to meet her -- just one day old.

Church Gathering at Camp New Hope

On the Friday about a week before Easter, we joined a bunch of other young families from our church for an evening at Camp New Hope. It was a nice, warm afternoon -- perfect for being outside! We grilled dinner and yummy dessert on the campfire and spent lots of time running around, playing on the playground, and just having fun! Here are some pictures of the action.

The kids had fun jumping from a pile of leaves, over & over again....

Caroline had fun just lying down in the leaves.

Neils's baptism

Our adorable nephew/cousin, Neils Mark Vandersea, was baptized in New Bern in early March. Here is a group photo showing ALL of the Vandersea family! It's a little blurry, but it was the best shot of everybody. Left to right are: Hal & Marilyn (Brian's parents), Miriam, Mark (Brian's older brother), Neils, Brian, Caroline, Rachel, me, Chase, Trish, Tucker, and Kevin (Brian's younger brother).

Rachel's first soccer game

Rachel had her first soccer game on Saturday, and it was lots of fun! She even scored a goal, so we were really proud of her! Allen, Clair, and Hutch came out to cheer for her, so it was nice having them there, too. Here are some pictures....

Action shot...

Even more action -- Rachel going after the ball (that's Rachel behind the kid that has the ball)

I think she had just kicked the ball in this one....

Catching up on March

I guess I've been a little delinquent in March, not making time to post new photos. Here's a random assortment of pictures.......

Snow in March!

I have to admit, I am very ready for warmer weather and springtime! I was not exactly thrilled to see snow in our forecast a few days ago. However, waking up this morning to a winter wonderland was great! Just looking out the windows at all the white tree branches and the ground covered in snow was a nice reminder of what I'll miss about winter when it's 98 degrees and hot/humid this summer! So a little snow in March wasn't so bad after all! If only it will warm up NOW and stay that way -- ha!
Here are some pictures of the scenery and the action in the snow.
