Birthday Party at Spence's Farm

Last Saturday, we went to a birthday party for Leslie, one of Rachel's classmates from Mi Escuelita. They had the party at a neat family farm in Chapel Hill called Spence's Farm. The kids had a great time gathering vegetables from the garden, petting chickens & finding eggs in the chicken coop, brushing a pony (and an optional pony ride), followed by the usual party festivities of lunch and birthday cake.

Leslie, the birthday girl, is in the photo below wearing the purple shirt. Rachel, in case you don't recognize her in ponytails, has on the orange shirt.

Leslie comes from a Spanish-speaking family, as did a few of the other children at the party, so they sang Happy Birthday in both languages. Here's an excerpt from the Spanish version.

Vacation Bible School

Rachel has been going to Vacation Bible School at Camp New Hope this week (Camp New Hope is a Presbyterian Conference & Retreat Center near Chapel Hill). She is having a fabulous time, and today I was lucky enough to see the action while helping with snack duty. Here are some pictures of her doing crafts and other activities with the 3-year-old group.

Chatting with Rachel at the dinner table

Rachel was telling us how to get to all kinds of places tonight at dinner. Here are a couple of excerpts.

Dora Night at the Durham Bulls Game

Last night we went to the Durham Bulls baseball game, and it happened to be Dora the Explorer night. Rachel went nuts over Dora -- for her, meeting Dora was like winning the lottery! She was so excited she could hardly contain herself. Oh, and the game was fun, too -- the Bulls beat Norfolk -- and the fireworks afterward were great.

Winter / Summer

Rachel looked very cute trying on all the winter gear that I had just washed to put away until the cold weather returns!

Meanwhile, Caroline was holding the sunscreen in one hand and her swim diaper in the other as if to say, "Mommy, take me to the pool!!!"

Playdate with Virginia, Allison, & Catherine Hall

We had a fun time last Friday with Virginia Hall and her two girls, Allison (2-1/2) and Catherine (10 months). Rachel and Allison play really well together, and we know that it won't be long before Caroline and Catherine will be buddies, too. Catherine is just 5 weeks older than Caroline.

Caroline's Favorite Game -- peekaboo

Here's a video of Caroline playing her favorite game these days -- peekaboo. She will put almost anything over her face to initiate a round of peekaboo!

Getting started!

Today I am excited to be creating a blog for our family! Hopefully anyone who's interested can see updated pictures and video clips of Rachel & Caroline doing new things.
