Family Zoo Trip - July 11

We had a great time at the zoo on my birthday! The new giraffe observation deck was my favorite part - we were able to hand-feed leaves to a hungry giraffe! It was also neat watching a gorilla eat a vegetable snack, as well as visiting the other usual animals - elephants, ostriches, zebras, chimps, lions, etc. Here are some highlights!

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree - Rachel was our navigator, reminiscent of my days as Map Girl when my friends & I traveled in Europe!

A giraffe at the observation deck - what a long tongue!
Feeding him some yummy leaves

The giraffes were just so beautiful to watch!
Rachel at the elephant pond - this one had just come out of the pond from a nice, cool swim!
Brian and the girls were able to cool off under a misty "tree"
Safari Helicopter as part of the elephant education exhibit
A gorilla eating a yummy piece of celery (this was exciting because it was my first time at this zoo to see a gorilla doing anything more than sleeping or sitting up against the glass)

Enjoying a carrot, too!

Neat photo of the male lion sleeping - with Brian & Caroline's shadow looking down at him
